General information

Located in northeastern Italy, Veneto is among the country’s most visited regions. The region borders Austria to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Thanks to this location, Veneto offers a special mix of landscapes. From mountains and lakes to historic cities and coastal towns.

The capital of Veneto is Venice. This iconic city is known for its canals, bridges and magnificent palaces. Yet the region has much more to offer than just Venice. Think of the romantic city of Verona, the elegant city of Padua and the vineyards of Valdobbiadene where the famous prosecco comes from.

Nature lovers will also find plenty to enjoy here. To the north lie the impressive Dolomites. This mountain area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is perfect for hiking, skiing and road trips with spectacular views.

What makes Veneto so attractive to travelers is its enormous variety. Here you can soak up culture in historic cities, enjoy Italian gastronomy, hike in the mountains and relax at Lake Garda.

Venice

Venice is without doubt the most famous city in Veneto and one of the most unique cities in the world. The city is built on more than a hundred small islands connected by bridges. Instead of streets, you will find canals and boats. The famous St. Mark's Square is the heart of the city, surrounded by buildings such as the Basilica of St. Mark and the Doge's Palace. Stroll through the narrow alleys, admire the Rialto Bridge and take a boat ride on the Grand Canal. Venice is a city where it is best to wander around, constantly discovering new hidden squares and atmospheric streets.

Verona

Verona is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in northern Italy. The city is known worldwide as the setting of the story of Romeo and Juliet, but Verona has much more to offer than just that famous balcony. In the historic center you will find beautiful squares, medieval streets and impressive monuments. The absolute highlight is the Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater where spectacular operas are performed in the summer. It is also great to stroll along the Adige River and enjoy the lively atmosphere in squares such as Piazza delle Erbe.

Padua

Padua, or Padova in Italian, is a lively university town with a rich history and an authentic Italian atmosphere. The city is a short distance from Venice, making it perfect to combine during a tour of Veneto. Padua is best known for the Scrovegni Chapel, where you can admire Giotto's world-famous frescoes. The Basilica of St. Anthony is also a major attraction and attracts many pilgrims each year. In addition, Padua has cozy squares, historic cafes and a lively market in the large famous square Prato della Valle in the center.
