The capital of Lombardy is Milan. This is the fashion and design capital of Italy. But outside of Milan, you will also discover beautiful historic cities such as Bergamo, Mantua and Brescia. Many of these cities have a rich past dating back to Roman times or the Renaissance.

By plane
The largest airport is Milan Malpensa. There are also Milan Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio airports. From the Netherlands and Belgium, several direct flights go daily to Milan and Bergamo.
By car
From the Netherlands you can drive to Lombardy in about ten to twelve hours, depending on your destination. The route usually goes through Germany and Switzerland. Especially if you go to the north of the region, for example Lake Como, the route through Switzerland is often the fastest.
By train
Lombardy is also easily accessible by train. From the Netherlands, travel to Milan via Switzerland. Milan is an important hub for Italy’s high-speed rail network, making it easy to travel on to other cities in the region.
Milan is the vibrant capital of Lombardy and one of Italy's most important cities. The city is known worldwide for fashion, design and art. The impressive centerpiece is Milan's Duomo, one of the largest cathedrals in Europe. The famous painting The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci also attracts thousands of visitors every year. Besides culture, you will find stylish shopping streets, cozy neighborhoods such as Brera and Navigli and an excellent restaurant scene.
Bergamo is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric cities in Lombardy. The city consists of a modern lower town and the historic upper town, Città Alta. This medieval center lies on a hill and is surrounded by Venetian city walls. Here you walk through narrow streets, past old squares and impressive churches. From the city walls you also have a beautiful view of the surroundings.
Brescia is a surprisingly beautiful city with a rich history dating back to Roman times. In the historic center you will find one of the most important Roman archaeological areas in northern Italy. Here you will find, among other things, a Roman theater and an ancient temple. In addition, the city has elegant squares, historic buildings and interesting museums. Brescia is also close to Lake Garda and the Franciacorta wine region.
Mantua is an elegant and peaceful city in southern Lombardy. The city is surrounded by three lakes, making for an extraordinary landscape. The historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is full of Renaissance palaces. The impressive Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Te are among the main attractions. Mantua feels authentic and is a perfect destination for lovers of art, history and gastronomy.
