General information

Friuli Venezia Giulia is located in the extreme northeast of Italy and borders Slovenia and Austria. As a result, the region feels very different from many other parts of Italy. You clearly notice the influences of Central Europe here in the architecture, cuisine and culture.

The region consists of four provinces: Trieste, Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia. The landscape is surprisingly diverse. In the north are the impressive Alps of the Carnic and Julian Alps. In the middle you will find green hills and famous wine regions such as Collio. In the south is the Adriatic coast with charming seaside resorts and lagoons.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is known for its gastronomy. Think refined wines, prosciutto di San Daniele, delicious cheeses and dishes with influences from Austria and Slovenia. Coffee lovers are also in the right place: the city of Trieste is often considered the coffee city of Italy.

What appeals to many travelers about Friuli Venezia Giulia is its tranquility. Compared to Tuscany or Lake Garda, it is much less crowded here. As a result, you can still truly experience authentic villages, nature and local traditions.
